There are 10 characteristics of Burning Man that have been established as the tradition that molds the environment at Burning Man. These characteristics include radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, immediacy. I have found that this is a very broad tradition that is up to the individual's’ experience to truly determine the experience you have at this gathering. Many of the characteristics are pretty self explanatory if you have ever been to a large music festival or any other festival where you stay there. I went to Coachella last year and many of the characteristics of Burning Man seem to relate to experiences at Coachella so I will need to try to use that experience to really be able to explain to the class the environment those 10 characteristics create at an event like this.
